SPEAKER: Hello, let's start this program about The Ten Commandments by listening to a few verses from Deuteronomy chapter four of your Bible.

ANNOUNCER: The fifth book of Moses called Deuteronomy. Chapter four. (1) Now therefore hearken, O Israel, unto the statutes and unto the judgments, which I teach you, for to do them, that ye may live, and go in and possess the land which the Lord God of your fathers giveth you.

(2) Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you.

(3) Your eyes have seen what the Lord did because of Baalpeor: for all the men that followed Baalpeor, the Lord thy God hath destroyed them from among you.

(4) But ye that did cleave unto the Lord your God are alive every one of you this day.

(5) Behold, I have taught you statutes and judgments, even as the Lord my God commanded me, that ye should do so in the land whither ye go to possess it.

(6) Keep therefore and do them; for this is your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the nations, which shall hear all these statutes, and say, Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.

(7) For what nation is there so great, who hath God so nigh unto them, as the Lord our God is in all things that we call upon him for?

(8) And what nation is there so great, that hath statutes and judgments so righteous as all this law, which I set before you this day?

(9) Only take heed to thyself, and keep thy soul diligently, lest thou forget the things which thine eyes have seen, and lest they depart from thy heart all the days of thy life: but teach them thy sons, and thy sons' sons;

SPEAKER: This book of Deuteronomy, it was written by Moses. He asked us to hearken to the statutes and judgments. Here is what Moses said:

ANNOUNCER: (1) Now therefore hearken, O Israel, unto the statutes and unto the judgments, which I teach you, for to do them, that ye may live, . . 

SPEAKER:
Moses made this point over and over and over. That obedience to God's law was a matter of life and death. Not just for you, but for your children, and even for your nation. God sent Moses so that we might have life and Jesus came that we might have life more abundantly. The principle taught is this, if you do not listen to Moses you may not live long enough to listen to Christ. I'll be back right after this message.

SPEAKER: What are Statutes and Judgments? God gave us ten commandments, these ten commandments are laws. God had Moses explained His Ten Commandment laws, by means of Statutes and Judgments. To understand how this works, let's think of a modern day legislature.

LAW

   For example, your representatives in the legislature might write a law saying, Thou Shalt not speed. That is a law. Now the question is, what is speeding? The sixteen year old know it all, does not have the same ideas about driving as the 65 year old retired businessman, who lost his wife in a car accident. So the legislature defines speeding by writing a statute to answer the question, what is speeding?

STATUTE

   Thou shalt not exceed twenty miles per hour in a school zone, that would be a statute under this no speeding law. The statutes of the law explain the act required or forbidden. Otherwise everyone would be free to decide for himself what speeding was. You see, you just can not write a law saying, Thou shalt not speed, and let everyone decide for himself what speeding is.

JUDGMENT

   And what about the law breaker? The speeder. Provision is made for the lawless by a written judgment. The legislature might write a judgment saying, anyone exceeding the 20 mile speed limit in a school zone shall be fined $5.00 for each mile over the speed limit.

   Your representatives in the legislature write law that way. They write laws with three parts, first the basic law. Then the statutes that define the law's requirements, and finally the judgments or penalties for breaking the law.

   God is just as smart as your legislators. He gave us ten basic laws. Then he explained them by way of statutes. And finally he gave us judgments to deal with the lawless. Even after going to church for years, the average person has no knowledge about God's Law, and they have never heard of its statutes and judgments, listen to this letter.

Gentlemen,

   I felt that you made some excellent points in the Bible Law Course about clergymen either not understanding, or deliberately distorting God's Laws. I am an ordained minister with two seminary degrees. I'm a Lieutenant General in the National Chaplains Association. No where, no where in my training was God's Law ever stressed. I feel that I will be a better Christian and a better minister because of your course.

   In chapter four, the first thing Moses said was that God gave us statutes and judgments that we might live. Here are Jesus' words from Matthew 4:4 of your New Testament.

ANNOUNCER: (4) And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread. But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

SPEAKER: Jesus said. It is written, Written where? Well right there in Deuteronomy 4 and verse 1. Jesus words were in reference to the fourth chapter of the Book of Deuteronomy, wherein Moses was explaining Gods Law, it's statutes and judgments that we might live.

   Moses wrote about Jesus Christ and Jesus Christ quoted Moses' writings, listen to this. It is from your New Testament. John chapter 5: verses 46 and 47

ANNOUNCER: (The gospel according to St. John) (46) For had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed me: for he wrote of me. (47) But if ye believe not his writings, how shall ye believe my words?

SPEAKER: Some New Testament Christians say, The Old Testament, that's done away in Jesus. But if that is what you believe, how does that teaching square with what you just heard?

ANNOUNCER: if ye believe not his writings, how shall ye believe my words?

SPEAKER: How can you believe Jesus, if you do not first believe Moses? And in Matthew 4:4 Jesus in effect said, if you wish to live, listen to Moses for Moses gave you God's word. Moses next point was in verse three. He said, "You have seen what God did at Baalpeor." Here is verses 3 again, listen,

ANNOUNCER: (3) Your eyes have seen what the Lord did because of Baalpeor: for all the men that followed Baalpeor, the Lord thy God hath destroyed them from among you.

SPEAKER: These people did not live, it says, the Lord thy God hath destroyed them from among you. Why would God do this? What happened? This event at Baalpeor is mentioned in the New Testament's Book of Revelation. It is in chapter 14, verse 2, listen:

ANNOUNCER: (2) But I have a few things against thee, because thou hast there them that hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balac to cast a stumbling block before the children of Israel,

   In this New Testament verse God is complaining that his Christian people were living with, or associating with a people who held to something called, The Doctrine of Balaam. This New Testament verse mentions two men, one was a prophet and the other a king. These two cast a stumbling block before the people of Israel. What was the stumbling block?

   In this program let's find out about the events at Baalpeor, let's find out what it was that these New Testament Christians believed that is called; The Doctrine of Balaam. And what that has to do with Moses' and Jesus' advise, That ye might live.

   We can find out more about Baalpeor, Balaam the prophet and King Balac by reading Numbers 22 to 25 in the Old Testament.

   Briefly, King Balac of Moab wanted to make war with and destroy the nation of Israel. The Israelites were a powerful nation and this king feared that his army could not defeat them. So he sought out a famous prophet. He sought him out with the intentions of having the prophet curse the people of God.

   King Balac figured, perhaps rightly, that his army would prevail if the enemy nation was under a curse. So King Balac asked prophet Baalim to place a curse on Israel. King Balac offered to pay any amount of money for his cooperation.

   Balaam the prophet knew that Israel was blessed of God, and he rightly informed King Balac - he said it was not possible to curse, what God has blessed. However, King Balac was stubborn and he was determined to have Israel cursed anyway; and this Balaam the prophet, he was anxious to please simply because he coveted the king's money.

   So this is the deal that was worked out while the prophet could not place a curse on Israel, he could tell the king how to get Israel to bring a curse upon themselves, and so for money, prophet Balaam told King Balac, he told him how to get God angry at and to curse his very own people.

   And the plan was successful; the results were - God, in his anger, he slew 25,000 of his own people. Balaam got his money, and the enemy king achieved a victory without firing a shot. In fact you could say, his weapon was peace. He gave peace a chance. From reading just The Old Testament, just exactly what Balaam told King Balac is not clear.

   Fortunately, more details are available in a well known, well respected history book. That history book is the History of the Jews, by Josephus. Balaam's advise to King Balac is found in Josephus Book four, chapter 6; here in chapter six Josephus reports what Balaam said to the king, Here is what he said;

   "If you want to be victorious over them - follow my advice. Select your most beautiful women, women beautiful enough to overcome the modesty of their male companions. Dress them in the finest, most seductive clothing and jewelry that you can afford. Then send them to the Israelite camp with these instructions that when any of the Hebrew men desire their companionship, they allow it."

   "And when the men lust after them, to let them do as they please but only after they have been persuaded to abandon their own laws; the laws delivered at Sinai through Moses, and to live by the laws and customs of the gods of the Midianites and Moabites; for by this means their God will be angry at them."

   Balaam's advice is simply this. To; persuade, seduce, trick or otherwise get God's people to break God's Law, or live by the customs and laws of other lands. This is done to get God to remove his blessings and bring instead, curses upon his own people.

   When you read Josephus' account you will find that the men who were seduced, did not believe that they were doing anything wrong. God does not say, it is O.K. to sin, if your intentions are good. He does not say that you can do whatever you please, as long as you think you are doing the right thing.

   There is a Bible in every Christian home, and if you believe that you can live contrary to God's clear instruction; because you have been taught, "God looks upon the heart," then you have been listening to the wrong people. The Doctrine of Balaam is a war of words and a war of ideas. It is a secret war.

   A war conducted against Christians. A war conducted by people who live among us. A war of words and a war of ideas. The wicked work very hard to bring about change in our society, to replace our traditional Christian values with 'more modern, more enlightened ways'. And often, the ideas are presented by seductive young women, you know, look at modern day advertising. Very often the new ideas are presented in TV situation comedies, at other times by the talk shows; shows that present every perversion as acceptable, while ridiculing traditional Christian values.

   These ideas, presented as entertainment, they lead to a change in our way of life. Changes that violate the statutes and judgments of God's Law.

SPEAKER: So there you have it, now you know the secret of the Doctrine Of Balaam. In the Old Testament, in the book of Micah, chapter 6 verse 5, we find a related warning. Here it is; listen carefully;

ANNOUNCER: (5) O my people, remember now what Balac king of Moab consulted, and what Balaam the son of Beor answered him from Shittim unto Gilgal; that ye may know the righteousness of the Lord.

SPEAKER: Notice that this verse makes several points; First, this is something for God's people to remember. Something for you to remember. Specifically, We are to remember what King Balac asked. And, we are to remember Balaam's answer. And finally, the reason for all this, and that reason is, "that ye may know the righteousness of the Lord." If we have never heard this warning and if we don't know anything about the Doctrine of Balaam, then two things will result.

   First, we will not know, and therefore, we will not understand God's righteousness. And second, we will not be able to detect, and not be able to recognize the workings of these wicked people, if and when they do live among us.

   What did King Balac want to know? King Balac wanted to know how to destroy God's People. He obtained advice from Balaam the prophet. The implementation of this advice caused, persuaded or resulted in sin on the part of God's people. All he did was to get them to break God's law, to sin. Many of the people at that time did not know or did not believe that they were sinning. Nevertheless, this sin resulted in a plague, and 25,000 people died.

   And most important, God caused the plague. Yes, God caused the plague. The prophet Micah wanted us to understand the righteousness of God. It is simply. When his people are wicked, he punishes them, when they are good, he blesses them.

   Now, if you were one of them, one of these people who hold the Doctrine of Balaam, and hate Christ, and hate Christians, how would you put this Doctrine of Balaam into effect?

   Well, perhaps that has already happening. If you are an older member of our society you have seen great changes in our nation in your lifetime. We now accept customs and ways that were simply not tolerated just a few years ago. Take for example abortion. When you were a child, police arrested abortionists, and abortionists were either executed or imprisoned.

   Today, abortionists openly do business and the police arrest and jail those opposed to abortion. Who or what brought about this change? And how did they do it in such a short time? Another great change is in how women dress. A very few years ago women wore dresses. Here is a verse from your Bible, it is Deuteronomy 22:5, listen;

ANNOUNCER: (5) The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman's garment: for all that do so are abomination unto the Lord thy God.

SPEAKER: These seducers simply look through the Bible to discover what God likes and what he does not like. Then they use their influence on the TV talk shows, the situation comedies, and in the movies, to persuade us to do what God hates.

   To make sin popular, to make it the right thing to do? Just get Christians to do the exact opposite of whatever it is that God wants them to do. I have in my hands a letter-to-the-editor of a newspaper. Listen to what this woman had to say, this is the headline, Women Should Not Wear Pants.

   She says, "In this day and age when women want to be equal with men in everything it seems, I think that they have lost more than they have gained. They even want to dress like men. There is nothing so nauseating and sickening as to see women dressed in pants. They have no femininity. God created them a woman. Not a man. God said in Deuteronomy 22:5, The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman's garment: for all that do so are abomination unto the Lord thy God.

   Then men want to be women by wearing their hair long, like a woman. God said in 1 Corinthians 11:14, Doth not even nature itself teach you, that, if a man have long hair, it is a shame unto him?

   You can hardly tell some of them apart. Where are the beautiful women of yesteryear? The femininely dressed keepers at home. Like the Bible says in Titus 2:5, "keepers at home." Now so many children are 'keepers at home'. 

   So, while many women are away trying to compete with men, I think that is why we have so much juvenile delinquency. The home is falling apart today. May god give us feminine women and manly men.

   And this letter-to-the-editor was signed by a woman whose first name is Bernice. There are a thousand examples of how the wicked work to change our Christian laws and Christian customs, how they make popular the ways disliked, even hated by the God of your Bible. The enemies of Christianity know they know that a Christian Nation is blessed and invincible just as long as they are in God's good graces.

   They also know that God will not bless a nation of sinners. Even if we sin with the best of intentions. Even if we excuse our sin in the name of 'love'. In fact, the wicked know, if they can keep us ignorant of God's Law, make us believe that it is done away, make us think that we are good Christians while at the very same time tricking us into doing the things God hates, they know, God will still bring curses upon us.

   That is the secret of The Doctrine of Balaam. Are you over your head in debt? Is your plant being closed and your job sent to some other nation such as Mexico or Japan? Could these curses be on us because we, as a nation, are in violation of God's economic laws? Even his clothing laws? The answer is "Yes."

   And these laws, and the curses that result from their violation they are listed in your Bible. People ask, Where is the God of judgment? Where is God's righteousness? Well, it is right there in the National Debt and right there in plant closings. These are a few of God's punishments on America. All these curses are listed right there in Deuteronomy 28 of your Bible.

   The curses upon America are increasing. It is proof, proof that something is terribly wrong in America, proof that God is angry with us. Proof that the judgment of God is upon America. Have the wolves been gleefully pulling the wool over the eyes of Christian Sheep? One pastor in Massachusetts wrote this in the margin of a lesson Answer Sheet "Boy is God opening my eyes." Later we received this letter from the same Pastor.

Dear Sirs, 

   Let me say how much I am enjoying this Bible Study. Thank you so much. After 3 years of Bible School and fifteen years of preaching that God put his law away in Christ, God forgive me, and he has, thank God for opening my eyes. If we ministers would stop listening to our heads and start listening to our hearts, we would know God has not put away his commandments. God has been trying to show me this for a long time. I understand now why we are in such a mess. I don't know why I did not see this sooner. I ask for his forgiveness. In Jesus name I covenant before God, that from this time forward I will teach and preach his whole word.
