Deuteronomy 32

45.  And Moses made an end of speaking all these words to all Israel:

46.  And he said unto them, Set your hearts unto all the words which I testify among you this day, which ye shall command your children to observe to do, all the words of this law.

47For it is not a vain thing for you; because it is your life: and through this thing ye shall prolong your days in the land, whither ye go over Jordan to possess it.

The Book of Proverbs

Proverbs Chapter 1 is the introduction to this Bible book. Proverbs was written by King Solomon.  (Not Pastor Solomon) Many believe that King Solomon was one of the wisest men to ever live. Solomon wrote this book so you children could also be wise. Listen to King Solomon:

Proverbs - Chapter 1

1.  The proverbs of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel;

2.  To know wisdom and instruction; to perceive the words of understanding;

3.  To receive the instruction of wisdom, justice, and judgment, and equity;

4.  To give subtlety to the simple, to the young man knowledge and discretion.

5.  A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels:

6.  To understand a proverb, and the interpretation; the words of the wise, and their dark sayings.

7.  The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

8My son, hear the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother:

Proverbs Chapter 3

1My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments:

2.  For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee.

3.  Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart:

4.  So shalt thou find favor and good understanding in the sight of God and man.

A Hoary Head?

In Proverbs  16:31.  "The hoary head is a crown of glory, if it be found in the way of righteousness. And in Leviticus 19:32.  Thou shalt rise up before the hoary head, and honour the face of the old man, and fear thy God: I am the LORD.

What is a hoary head? Do you know anyone with a hoary head? To find out let's look at some other versions of your Bible. Here is Leviticus 19:32 in three other translations.

Basic English Bible New American
Standard Bible
Ferrar Fenton
Modern English Bible
Get up from your seats before the white-haired, and give honour to the old, and let the fear of your God be before you: I am the Lord. `You shall rise up before the gray headed and honor the aged, and you shall revere your God; I am the LORD. `You shall rise up before the gray headed, and pay respect to the presence of a judge, and reverence to your God. I am the EVER-LIVING"

Hebrews 5:8.  So also Christ glorified not himself to be made an high priest; but he that said unto him, Thou art my Son, to day have I begotten thee. 6.  As he saith also in another place, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec. 7.  Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, and was heard in that he feared; 8Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered; 9.  And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;

  If you join the military the very first thing you will be taught and the first thing required of you is OBEDIENCE. Everyone obeys the Drill Sergeant, General or Admiral. But the General or Admiral only gained this position is because they first learned obedience.

   If you get a job. The very first thing that will be required is 'do as you are told'. Should you wish to make a suggestion about the running of the business, you will not be listened to until after you demonstrate a willingness to follow instructions. If you are not willing to obey, then the military and employers do not want you.

   When Jesus learned obedience, (And he is God!) who do you think he obeyed? Perhaps his parents?

   Do you think that you can learn obedience by the things which you sufferer such as "wash the dishes", "take out the trash", do your homework" don't watch MTV" and "be home by 9:00 PM?"  Those who rise highest are often those who bow lowest.   What did Darth Vader say to the Emperor? Click here.

What does it mean when a verse ends with,
"I am the Lord."

"When I was growing up, it was not a common thing for me to question an order from my parents. The few times I did ask why I was required to do something, I received the same answer from my dad and mom, "Because I said so!" My parents may not have realized it at the time, but they were preparing me for the real world, where we are not always entitled to question a direct order from authority."

Proverbs 31:17 tells us, "The eye that mocketh at his father, and despiseth to obey his mother, the ravens of the valley shall pick it out, and the young eagles shall eat it."

"There are times when terrible harm can come to children if they do not immediately comply with the instruction of the parent. My children understood that there were times that they were to comply with my orders simply "because I said so!" Robert R. Surgenor

Deuteronomy 6: 6-7. And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: 7. And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.

   Now many of you children, and even many of you teenagers may not think that this happened to you. You parents may not think that you have done this, but you think on this: What did you parents say to your when you "sittest in thy house?"

   How about, "Do your homework. I want you home by nine. Turn off that television. I don't want you reading that crap. Cut your hair. Don't wear those tight fitting clothes."

   To those of you who are now young adults, I ask, "How much would it have benefited you, if you had done as your parents ask?"

   Well, if you were home by nine you would have done better in school the next day. You might not have wrecked the family car. You might not have spent a night in jail. Yes, your parents did talk to you, when thou sittest in thine house, your parents did talk to you when thou walkest by the way. Your parents did talk to you when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. And you probably didn't want to hear about it. And you didn't like, "Because I said so."

   No, your parents didn't speak God's word just exactly as written in your Bible. But it was in your parents heart. And nothing that thy said would have brought harm. And had you listened, then today you would have God's promise; "that thy days may be prolonged, and that it may go well with thee."

Deuteronomy 5:16, Honour thy father and thy mother, as the Lord thy God hath commanded thee; that thy days may be prolonged, and that it may go well with thee, in the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.

What is your choice? Provoke your parents and grandparents to anger or be favorably remembered in their wills?

(  ) Remembered favorably.

(  ) Disinherited.

What is your choice?

(  ) A. Proverbs 23:22. Hearken unto thy father that begat thee, and despise not thy mother when she is old. And Proverbs 3:11. My son, despise not the chastening of the LORD; neither be weary of his correction:

(  ) B. Complain to Child Protective Services. (Bankrupting your parents with legal and other fees and getting your younger siblings placed in foster care. CPS might even cause a divorce.)

What is your choice?

(   ) A. Have mom and dad help pay for your college education.

(   ) B. Get a unpayable student loan and see a bumper sticker on their camper, "Spending my children's inheritance."

Report: Mother Kills Children
 For "Talking Back"

By The Tampa Tribune
January 28, 2011

A Florida mother has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder after authorities say she killed her two children because "they talked back to her."

According to our news coverage partners at Tampa Bay Online, Police arrested 50-year old Julie Schenecker outside of her home on Friday after receiving a call from a worried relative. Deputies discovered the bodies of her 13-year old son Beau and 16-year old daughter, Calyx.

According to the report, Schenecker said she shot her son twice in the head on their way home from soccer practice and then parked her minivan in the garage of their home. She said she then went upstairs and shot her daughter in the back of her head and face as she was doing homework on her computer.

Investigators say that Schenecker was found on the back porch of her home wearing a bloody robe and slippers. They say she told them she killed the children because, "they talked back, they were mouthy and she was tired of it."

Mom admits strangling daughter at NY college
Feb 1, 2011

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (AP) -- A woman who said she strangled her 18-year-old daughter because she "pushed my last button" pleaded guilty Tuesday to first-degree manslaughter. Her husband, who discovered the body, wept during the court session.

Stacy Pagli, 38, had been charged with murder in the Feb. 22 killing of her daughter Marissa at Manhattanville College in Purchase.

According to police accounts of Pagli's statements after the killing, the mother said her daughter was "disrespectful all the time." She said she told her daughter, "This will be the last time you speak to me like that," the documents say.

"We are not always entitled to question a direct order from authority. There are times when we need to comply with orders simply "because I said so!" As the Bible says, "I am the Lord".

"Because I said so!" = "I am the Lord"
