Deuteronomy 4 1. Now therefore hearken, O Israel, unto the statutes and unto the judgments, which I teach you, for to do them, that ye may live, and go in and possess the land which the LORD God of your fathers giveth you. 2. Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you. 3. Your eyes have seen what the LORD did because of Baal-peor: for all the men that followed Baal-peor, the LORD thy God hath destroyed them from among you. 4. But ye that did cleave unto the LORD your God are alive every one of you this day. 5. Behold, I have taught you statutes and judgments, even as the LORD my God commanded me, that ye should do so in the land whither ye go to possess it. 6. Keep therefore and do them; for this is your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the nations, which shall hear all these statutes, and say, Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people. 7. For what nation is there so great, who hath God so nigh unto them, as the LORD our God is in all things that we call upon him for? 8. And what nation is there so great, that hath statutes and judgments so righteous as all this law, which I set before you this day? 9. Only take heed to thyself, and keep thy soul diligently, lest thou forget the things which thine eyes have seen, and lest they depart from thy heart all the days of thy life: but teach them thy sons, and thy sons' sons; |
We start this course in the Book of Deuteronomy
The first five books of your Bible are called The Books of Moses. The five books are Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy. We start this course in the fifth book of the Bible called Deuteronomy. |

Deuteronomy 1:3 And it came to pass in the fortieth year, in the eleventh month, on the first day of the month, that Moses spake unto the children of Israel, according unto all that the LORD had given him in commandment unto them; | Moses lived a long time. Near the end of his life, Moses gave a farewell speech summarizing the wisdom given to him by God.
Moses began his talk with a history lesson summarized in the first three
chapters. Many of the people standing before him were children. They had
no idea of what the world was like just a few decades earlier. History Homework: From the public library or video rental store obtained and watch the 1930s movie The Big Trail, starring John Wayne. Also the 1951 movie When Worlds Collide. In the 1951 movie, noticed that, just a short time ago (1) the women are prettier (2) the men are handsomer and (3) nobody was fat. In those days, to see a fat lady you had to go to the circus side show. Concerning 'fat' research the food additive MSG on the Internet. (hint -"msg mice") They probably, just as many of you, thought the future offered little hope. The next to the last verse of Chapter 3 ( verse 28) says this, "But charge Joshua, and encourage him, and strengthen him: for he shall go over before this people, and he shall cause them to inherit the land....." Moses and Joshua were NOT preachers. They were politicians and generals such as World War 2 General Eisenhower who later became President of the United States. Joshua was a man like General Patton, who might have become President had he not been assonated. One of the books of the Bible is named Nehemiah. Who was Nehemiah? Question: 1

In Deuteronomy 3:28 Moses wanted to | You children are the nation's future leaders. The purpose of this course is
charge Joshua, | To charge you
and encourage him, | To encourage you
and strengthen him: | To strengthen you
for he shall go over before this people, |
So you can become a leader like the great men of the Bible.
and he shall cause them to inherit the land..." | So you can cause the nation to have a better future.
Deuteronomy 6 - Moses is speaking to the people about children |

1. Now these are the commandments, the
statutes, and the judgments, which the LORD your God
commanded to teach you, that ye might do them in the land whither ye go
to possess it: 2. That thou mightest fear the LORD thy God, to keep all his statutes and his commandments, which I command thee, thou, and thy son, and thy son's son, all the days of thy life; and that thy days may be prolonged. 3. Hear therefore, O Israel, and observe to do it; that it may be well with thee, and that ye may increase mightily, as the LORD God of thy fathers hath promised thee, in the land that floweth with milk and honey. 4. Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD: 5 And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. 6. And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: |
||||||||
7. And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt
talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the
way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. 8. And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes. |

But, what act is a violation of that law? |
||
The Statute defines violations of the basic

Statute: By clean we mean nothing on
the floor and your clothing in the closet or drawers. Your toys shall be kept in the toy box, not on the floor. |
The Statute. Moses
provided examples: Taking another's animal is stealing. Exodus 22:1 When someone steals an ox or a sheep, and slaughters it or sells it,... |

The Judgment specifies the penalty

Moses, Jesus and Paul the Apostle
Moses | Jesus | Paul |
Deuteronomy 5:16 Honour thy father and thy mother, as the LORD thy God hath commanded thee; that thy days may be prolonged, and that it may go well with thee, in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee. | Matthew 19:19 Honour thy father and thy mother: and, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. | Ephesians 6:1-3 Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. Honour thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise;) That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth. |
Question 8: Which is true? (
) A. Jesus did away with the law of Moses. Paul also taught the law
was done away. |
Notice that honor is spelled honour. In England some words are spelled differently than in America. The King James Version of the Bible came from England. For example, the American words color and labor are spelled colour and labour in England.
Leviticus 19:32 Thou shalt rise up before the hoary head, and honour the face of the old man, and fear thy God: I am the LORD.
What is a hoary head? What does "rise up before the hoary head" mean?
Why do many Bible verses end with "I am the Lord"? Don't we all know the Lord is the Lord?
